Low Maintenance Elegance with the Under Deck System

Longlife Building embarked on their Wentworth Project with their clients request to bring their backyard space back to life and give it a timeless, elegant feel. They worked alongside the qualified in-house interior designer who assisted them with the palette and all the finishes selected, with a priority of creating a fresh feel but still an added element of warmth.

Longlife Building wanted to ensure each of the spaces created a seamless flow for entertaining or just your casual relaxation by the pool over the weekend. Adding low maintenance through astro turf and low maintenance plants all while still adding a large impact on the design.

The Aussie UnderCover was purposefully chosen to add to the seamless flow and low maintenance vibe. It sits cleanly in the deck covered by the Newtechwood boards, but you don’t even know it is there.

Having a pool cover concealed in plain sight makes it available and immensely easier to use. There is no unsightly roller in view or heaving around a roller you have stored elsewhere.

Just open the lid and “presto”, you are ready to cover the pool or put the cover away for swimming and entertaining.

Cronulla Pools check out an Aussie UnderCover®

Cronulla Pools installed a glorious concrete pool in Caringbah recently which is a stunner.

The backyard space was limited, therefore a plunge pool was chosen which left space for hard and soft landscaping.

The pool is heated using an electric heat pump, therefore a pool cover was required. As already mentioned, the space was limited so an above ground cover was out of the question plus the client did not want to ruin their stunning view with unnecessary clutter.

Cronulla Pools had recently partnered with Aussie UnderCover so our system was the perfect solution.

The underdeck installation is simple, quick, and the result is completely seamless, with the pool cover totally concealed in the deck . As a bonus, the pool cover takes no space therefore a beautiful entertaining area can be created on top.

You can see from the stunning result in this project that limiting your colour choices in the elements around you pool makes a huge impact on the overall look and feel achieved.

Achieving a holiday feel with seamless functionality is the end goal.

Alisa has gone for a light and airy feeling through her home and pool space. The straight lines compliment her rectangular pool. The Aussie Undercover is virtually invisible so her pool cover can be easily removed when the pool is in use.

The outdoor shower is ultimately practical for pre and post swimming.

The polished concrete on the lid frame was achieved by fabricating a stainless steel lipped frame that was attached directly onto the Aussie UnderCover lid frame. Concrete was then poured into this frame and polished. Getting the gas struts set for this custom installation was a challenge, but the system operates wonderfully.

The beauty of the Aussie UnderCover® system is that it gives you the choice to GET THE LOOK YOU WANT. If you are using pavers or tiles around your pool then these can go on the lid frame, with some limitations. The same for all sorts of timber or composite timbers, plus synthetic turf, even honed concrete. You are not limited to an aluminium lid, that is very hot in summer and is definitely not hidden.

Lysandra designed her pool space to be clean and simple yet beautiful, dark, moody and functional.

The curved seating back mirrors the curved pool plus the round occasional tables and circular light add to the curvey feeling.

Uncluttered finish with an Aussie UnderCover®

Let your Pool be the Champion, not the Pool Cover!

Achieving simplicity with functionality is the name of the game.

In this project by Sharp Landscaping, we see an outdated pool taken from drab to fabulous with the removal of old and outdated finishes, such as pebblecrete and concrete tiles, replacing them with light coloured travertine. Although the shape of the pool is oldish, the pool is made to look far more modern with the removal of the raised edge, which also removes an unsafe trip hazard.

The boundary fence and gardens have also been completely overhauled, resulting in an easy maintenance garden with a fresh and light feeling. Just the place to relax on the weekend.

When renovating, it is the ideal time to hide all the unsightly bits and pieces we accumulate. The opportunity was taken to include a semi remote-controlled Aussie UnderCover® in the revamp to completely conceal the pool cover , so there is nothing to clutter the clean and fresh surface of the pool deck.

We have combined the several components and steps into one pre-assembled component, which means instead of installing these items separately, they are now installed as one. On top of this, we have updated some of our hardware components, which also saves time.

Ballards Carpentry recently installed a stunning Aussie UnderCover in a pool area refurbishment project in Kellyville, NSW.

Everybody wants a place to unwind and relax in their backyard. If you have a pool it’s the perfect place to cool down as well as entertain if you have the space.

In this project the existing pool area has been renovated with the glass pool fence repositioned and a deck added to extend the pool entertaining area, creating the perfect place to install a pergola and wonderful seating area. The deck has a multi-level offset access step area which introduces beautiful design and aesthetic interest.

The under deck Aussie UnderCover installation is very simple, quick, and the result is completely seamless, with the pool cover totally concealed in the Trex® decking and, as a bonus, the pool cover takes up no additional space, therefore it can be installed in a high traffic area, and even be covered with furniture if space is minimal.

Strategically positioned inset deck lights add further interest and, most importantly, safety and lovely ambience at night.

The peaked roof pergola and furniture finish off the area creating shelter from the sun or rain as well as a relaxing and inviting area to observe the pool.

In most decking installations, the decking boards run along the length of the Aussie UnderCover lid frame, but in this circumstance, the boards run across the lid frame to suit the deck setup. The outcome is slightly more noticeable than a lengthways installation, but the result is still outstanding.

Pool Covers & the National Construction Code - Aussie UnderCover®

Is your pool affected by the National Construction Code?

Whether you’re aware of it or not, the National Construction Code may require your pool to have a pool cover installed.

Many people do not want to use a pool cover for many reasons:

it may be considered unslightly
it may take up too much of the available space or entertaining area
maybe they cannot find a pool cover colour they like
it may seem hard to put on and remove the cover
their pool design my make a pool cover difficult to install.

Whatever the reason, they may be in a situation where they are REQUIRED to have a cover.

If you find yourself in this position, take heart, there are many covers out there that will resolve this problem, BUT there are not many that will be virtually invisible like the Aussie UnderCover® . Let’s look at what is available:

3.12.5.7 Swimming pool heating and pumping

(a) Heating for a swimming pool must be by—

(i) a solar heater not boosted by electric resistance heating; or

(ii) a heater using reclaimed energy; or

(iii) a gas heater; or

(iv) a heat pump; or

(v) a combination of (i) to (iv).

(b) Where some or all of the heating required by(a) is by a gas heater or a heat pump, the swimming pool must have—

(i) a cover unless located in a conditioned space; and

(ii) a time switch to control the operation of the heater.

(d) For the purposes of 3.12.5.7, a swimming pool does not include a spa pool.

All of the above are good choices and will do the job for you:

Helps to regulate water temperature – Having a cover installed can lower your power bill by reducing heat loss from your heated pool when the sun goes down.
Reduces water loss – Evaporation will lower your pool levels significantly in Summer. A pool cover can reduce water loss when not in use.
Minimises chlorine consumption – By reducing the amount of UV light hitting your pool, chlorine will degrade a lot slower meaning less topping up!
Less cleaning – Reduce the amount of debris and leaf litter entering your pool when not in use. This will also minimise the load on your skimmer, filter, and pump.

Nowra Local Pools also operating as Turner’s Pools & Excavations installed this absolutely awesome pool at Culburra Beach recently.

The attention to details is amazing which shows in the end result.

It is often misunderstood how pool covers work with infinity edge pool. The cover does not flow over the edge. It sits inside the body of the pool and stops just before the infinity edge. In high wind areas, such as this beach front pool, a wind skirt will be required.

The wind skirt is a weighted rope that is added to the pool cover and it weighs down the edge of the cover so it sits just below the water line. In this way the wind is unable to pick up the pool cover and blow it off.

In this location there is absolutely no way you could use an above ground roller, as it would spoil the beauty and be blown around by heavy on shore winds. The Aussie UnderCover® is just perfect.

Not every infinity edge pool will require a wind skirt. If you are going down this path, please send us your plans early in the development stage so we can advise the best option for your location.

An Award Winning Pool Become Even Better

This pool by Outside Developments in South Australia won a gold award in the 2021 SPASA Awards of Excellence. It was already a fabulous pool but it has become even better by removing the original above ground roller and retrofitting a semi remote-control Aussie UnderCover® in the paving.

A retrofit can be messy but is truly worth the effort when the results are viewed. The space originally taken up by the above ground roller has now become clutter free and available as a walk way around the pool.

Revisiting another gem from the past

This contemporary pool installed in 2019 has had time to relax into the environment and blossom. The customer wanted to extend their living area off the deck into the pool area. A small step was introduced to differentiate the areas but still give unhindered views and easy access to the pool.

An Aussie UnderCover was used to conceal their pool cover in the hardwood deck so the views remained pristine and unrestricted by an regular above ground pool cover roller. 19mm hardwood was used on the lid frame which ensures that the pool cover competely disappears within the decking.

Revisiting a stunning 2012 installation

Oh how this property has blossomed. The pool area, designed and installed by Real Aussie Pools at Berry on the NSW South Coast, is as vibrant and fresh as the day it was installed in 2012. The pool takes advantage of the fabulous rural views with glass fencing surrounding the pool. Ahead of their time in 2012, the owners opted for our hidden underground pool cover system, but the great views could not be destroyed by a standard above ground roller. The Aussie UnderCover® was the perfect solution, as it’s completely concealed in the travertine paving using 19mm merbau decking on the lid frame. The system fits seemessly into the surrounding paving and is designed to walk on, which means it can easily be part of the pool high traffic area. The pool cover is readily available whenever needed but hidden out of sight most of the time.

The pool takes advantage of the fabulous coastal views over 7 Mile Beach and the hinterland at Gerringong. A pool cover was required, but the vista could not be destroyed by a standard above ground roller or a visible aluminium lid cover system. The Aussie UnderCover® was the perfect solution, as it’s completely concealed under the travertine paving using a matching 12mm tile on the lid frame. The system also fits into a tiny 390mm wide cavity and is designed to walk on, which means it can easily be part of the pool high traffic area. The pool cover is readily available whenever needed but hidden out of sight most of the time.

Under Deck Disappearing Act

A deck around your pool area is a great place to store your pool cover if you want to get is out of sight. This is exactly what happened at one of our latest trade installs. D C Bradley Builders of Brighton, Victoria created this disappearing act.

The deck is made of 19mm Silver Top Ash and provided the perfect hiding place for the pool cover. The pool is 13m x 4m and the cover fits very neatly inside the 390mm opening required by the Aussie UnderCover.

The kit installed is our Aussie UnderCover Power21, semi remote-control system which will retract the cover and roll forward when you pull the cover back onto the pool.

Customer comment “The concealed ‘under the deck’ thing is great – people have no idea that it is not a solid deck until I show them, it really does look very good.”

Another fabulous install and a happy tradie with a happy customer.

NOTE: you can use four narrow boards or three full wide boards on the lid frame which is more “invisible” in the deck.

Awesome Under Deck Installation of our Power 21

This wonderful installation was completed by Matthew McKenzie of Mack Landscape Constructions in Balwyn North, VIC 3104. The client required a seamless flow from the house into the pool area even though the only space for the pool cover was behind the pool fence gate. This was achieved by using our Aussie UnderCover® Under Deck installation with the Power 21 semi remote controlled system. The lid frame was concealed in the deck using 21mm hardwood.

You will agree that the result is great as no-one would even know it’s there.
